Our hands do thousands of small movements every day. After an injury, a stroke or with conditions such as arthritis, these movements can become difficult. The good news: you can practise a lot at home.

Ideas with everyday objects

  • Sort coins, buttons or beans into small bowls.
  • Knead dough or therapy putty for a few minutes.
  • Open and close jars, clothes pegs and zips.
  • Write a short note by hand every day.

How often should you practise?

Ten minutes a day are more effective than one long session a week. Stop when you feel pain and tell us about it at your next appointment.

Regular, gentle practice keeps your hands moving.
